Pasting a selection into Lightroom Classic

Four steps, no plugin.

    Copy for Lightroom

    In the gallery’s selections, click “Copy for Lightroom”. The list goes to your clipboard.

  2. ▸ 2A

    Library filter

    In Lightroom Classic: Library → Library Filter → Text → “Filename” → “Contains”.

  3. ▸ 3

    Paste

    Lightroom shows only the picked frames — raw files too, because the names carry no extension.

  4. ▸ 4A

    Flag them

    Select all and flag or colour-label them. The client’s notes are in the CSV.

Two things worth knowing

“Contains” matches fragments: DSC_001 also finds DSC_0010. With camera numbering that rarely matters, but if you rename files to short names, check the result.

A file name with a space splits into two words in the filter. The dashboard warns you when a selection contains such files.

A client picking more than the package is the best sales moment you’ll get.
That’s why the default limit is soft: the client keeps going, and you confirm the extra cost before you start editing.

Proofing questions

Does the client need an account to select photos?

No. They enter an email address (and optionally a name) so the selection is signed.

Does it work with Capture One or Photo Mechanic?

The list is plain text with comma-separated file names, and the CSV opens anywhere. The step-by-step guide here is for Lightroom Classic.

Can the client pick more than the package?

With a soft limit, yes — they see your message about extra images. With a hard limit they can’t select more.

What if the client changes their mind after submitting?

Reopen the selection with one click; the client adjusts and submits again.

Can I turn off downloads in a proofing gallery?

Yes. For proofing most photographers disable downloads and add a watermark to previews.
